A bail bond is essentially a written promise to pay the amount set by the court if the defendant fails to appear on the date and time also set by the court. The bond ensures a defendant's release from jail while waiting for their trial date. If the defendant fails to appear in court, the bond funds are forfeited unless the bail bondsman or a bounty hunter finds and returns the defendant.
In Nevada the cost of a bail bond is 15% of the bail amount determined by the court. This fee is set by the state and non-negotiable. After a the case is over, the bail bond is returned to the surety company.
